Welcome to my site! Lets get down to business. Congrats to the WRCA Warriors
for their win in the 2005 AAA Boys Provincials.
Notes:
Finals
That had to be one of the most sloppiest games I have ever seen to date.
It seemed like the whole game was just missed shots, loose balls and turnovers the whole time. That type of game obviously
favors the warriors as they are one of the most grittiest teams in the province. It was a close game at first with Wellington
jumping out to an early lead but soon after relinquished it. WRCA was too much for them on this night as their team defense
stifled them down the stretch and they couldnt execute. It seemed everytime there was a loose ball they were on it first with
at least 2 or 3 bodies. Tyrell Mara was a beast on the boards with 26. I was really surprised with Jordan
Mara. Their best perimeter defender, he set up the offense well and created once he got in the lane with some nifty
passes. Speaking of Mara's, i was hoping to see Grade 7 Eli get in the game to see
what he'd do. He dropped a three against Killarney in the first round and had another one in the Fraser Valleys. I've seen
the kid play and I am impressed. He has a legit midrange jumper and a tight handle already. Only time will tell. Pete
Morrison was impressive. He knows his role and doesnt try to do too much. Too bad Jeron Dillon had
an off night. Probably cost him a first team all-star.
3rd Place Game
This is probably the toughest game to play in as both teams feel they should
be the ones playing in it. McMath jumped out to an early lead and seemed to be headed towards a win due to some ICE cold first
half shooting by Tyler Kepkay. I think he had 2 points at the half. Kepkay soon woke up
in the second half as he ended up with 32 on a wide array of moves and some clutch 3 point shooting. Dude almost had a triple
double. Handsworth ended up with the win. Scott Leigh ended up with 19 for Handsworth. Leigh
will be a good player next year. He isnt afraid to take and make the big shot and makes good decisions. He needs to
tighten up his handle a bit as McMath point guard Jeff Chu swiped him a few times. Rob
Sacre looked very raw. He has a lot to learn before he becomes the player that he should be. Kepkay
looked very frustrated with him at times when he'd pass it to him and he wouldnt finish.

Players of the Day
Tyrell Mara- The main reason why White Rock Christian
was able to make it to the championship game. He had 17 points and 26 boards. A monster night. When you first look at it,
17 points doesnt seem much but White Rock only scored 46. Minus about 6 for free throws and they scored a legit 40 points.
Thats about 40 % of their scoring. He ended up with a slew of awards also. Two rings is very impressive.
Stats- 17 PTS, 26 REBS, 4 ASTS, 4 TO'S on 5 for 18 shooting
Brian Brooks-Wellington- Brooks played his heart out the
whole game and ended up with a tough earned 19 of his team's 40 points to show for his efforts.
Stats-19 PTS, 9 REBS, 3 ASTS, 5 TO'S on 6 for
13 shooting
Tyler Kepkay-Handsworth- After a slow start, he proved
once and for all why he is the best point guard in the province. Dude is surgical. He picks his spots and shoots makeable
shots. He is a player who knows the limitations of his game and does whatever he can to win.
Stats- 32 PTS, 8 REBS, 8 ASTS, 3 TO'S on 13/27 shooting
Scott Leigh- Scott came up with some big shots in the
first half as Tyler couldnt come up with his shooting touch. Hit a few threes, drove the lane and hit some midrange J's. Needs
to control his game a little bit and tighten up his handle/ cut down on turnovers.
Stats- 19 PTS, 6 REBS, 3 ASTS, 7 TO'S on 7/14
shooting
Kyle Watson- In his last high school game ever he came
up big and was the only one who showed up for his squad as he led them in points, assists and rebounds. He shot well
from the outside and took it hard against Sacre a lot of times and finishing.
Stats-31 PTS, 13 REBS, 6 ASTS, 3 TO'S on 10/21 shooting
Jacob Doerksen-capped off a tremendous athletic career
with a 54 point outburst against Kitsilano. Too much to handle inside, he shot 62 % from the field. It was funny when Kitsilano
went to walk off the court, Hansen pretended to dribble out the clock but gave the ball to Doerksen who threw down a nasty
dunk.
Stats-54 PTS, 18 REBS, 4 ASTS, 1 TO on 13/27 shooting
Herman Tesfeghabriel-Seems like this whole year Herman
has been out to prove that he belongs in the upper echelon of elite players in the province. He had a great tournament (individually)
and put up some huge numbers. I would've really liked to see him and Aymen Nurhuisen go head to head against
Tyrell Mara and Jeron Dillon. O well...
Stats- 22 PTS, 19 REBS, 5 TO's on 9/20 shooting
Gary Pelton- Gary "knees" Pelton had a pretty good day.
Stats-20 PTS, 8 REBS, 1 TO, 2 Blocks on 8/19 shooting
Harvey Bradford-One of the best all-around players in
the province, Harvey showed up and capped off his career pretty solidly.
Stats-20 PTS, 16 REBS, 4 ASTS, 5 STLS on 6/21 shooting

DISSAPOINTMENTS
#1. ARGYLE
What happened to Argyle???? Everyone was talking back-to-back until
they stunk up the joint against Wellington. And to make matters worse, they didnt even place. Yea i know its hard once you
lose the first game and dont want to play anymore but you still have to go out and compete. They were a real disappointment.
Its gonna be funny watching them get dismantled by Handsworth in the next 2 years though.
#2. St. George's
You can put together a team but I guess you can't put together team chemistry. These guys got worked
by WRCA in the quarters it almost made me cry. Such high hopes for Brian Lee's squad got crushed by a team that actually has
HEART. Can't recruit that either. And you know what, Handsworth will take them out next year. Im callin it right now.Leigh
will own Murphy at least.
#3. Tyler Kepkay
Disappointed he didnt try and drop 60 on Jeff Chu.

SURPRISES
#1. Wellington
Who would've predicted Wellington would make it to the finals? And actually make a game of it? Major
kudos to that whole Wellington crew on a great finish to their season.
#2. Isaiah Pasquale-Oak Bay
Isaiah averaged a healthy 27 points per game for Oak Bay who came in as the #1 ranked team from the
island. Maybe if Jeff Cullen did anything they would've done better. Isn't he on the provincial team??? I smell POLITICS!!
#3. Rob Dick-Kelowna
I'm just surprised at how funny his name sounds. Im guessing while his check was laughing was when he
managed to average 21.5 points per game. Jokes aside, he played pretty well.
#4. Kyle Watson
I didnt expect him to have the type of tourney that he had. He ended up averaging 25 and 11 with some
30+ point games.Well deserving of his first team all-star. Daddy's still better.
#5. Eli Mara
Anytime a grade 7 is even on the roster of the number 1 team in the province you have to say its impressive.
Not only did he dress but he managed to drop a 3 on Killarney. That's more points than Jordan Mara
scored in that game. the kid is legit and could probably start for some of the varsity teams I've seen and at the very
least be a very capable backup. I predict he'll start by grade 9 and average 20 by grade 10. He probably averages 45+ for
his grade 7 team. It's pretty freaky to think that he'll be starting in the backcourt with his brother Jordan in
a few years.
